Understanding the treatment

What is glutathione?

Glutathione is an antioxidant naturally produced by the body. It is involved in cellular antioxidant defence and several metabolic processes. Supplemental glutathione is available through different routes, but absorption, evidence and risks differ by route.

When the goal is improvement in uneven tone or pigmentation, a consultation is important because melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, tanning and other conditions often require different treatments.

Nuance’s approach: We first assess the concern, explain the available evidence and limitations, and discuss safer or better-supported alternatives when appropriate.

Evidence varies

Published studies do not establish predictable skin-lightening results for every person, especially with injectable use.

Results are not guaranteed

Response can vary with the underlying diagnosis, skin type, sun exposure, medical history and chosen treatment plan.

Medical screening matters

Suitability must be decided by a qualified clinician after reviewing medical conditions, medicines, allergies and treatment goals.

Why consultation comes first

A plan designed around your skin

Rather than treating every pigmentation concern alike, Nuance begins with diagnosis and an individual risk–benefit discussion.

Skin assessment

Evaluation of pigmentation pattern, skin type, current skincare and possible triggers.

Medical history

Review of relevant illness, medicines, supplements, allergies and previous reactions.

Realistic goals

A clear discussion of what may—or may not—improve with the available options.

Evidence and alternatives

Comparison with sunscreen, prescription skincare, peels, laser toning or other suitable care.

Safety planning

Clinical precautions and monitoring are selected according to the prescribed treatment.

Follow-up

Your plan can be reviewed and adjusted based on tolerance and observed response.

Why unsupervised injections should be avoided

Products promoted online or administered outside an appropriate medical setting may have uncertain ingredients, sterility or dosage. Injectable treatment can also cause reactions and complications that require prompt recognition and management.

Do not self-administer or purchase injectable “whitening” products online. Seek medical help urgently if you develop breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, faintness, fever or persistent symptoms after an injection.

Important disclosure

Evidence supporting IV glutathione specifically for skin lightening is limited, and international regulators have raised safety concerns about injectable products marketed for this purpose.

  • No guaranteed shade change or permanent result
  • Not suitable for everyone
  • Risks and alternatives require discussion
  • Only proceed if prescribed after medical assessment
Common questions

Glutathione therapy FAQs

Does glutathione permanently lighten the skin?

No permanent or predictable shade change can be promised. Available evidence is limited, and response—if any—varies. Your doctor will explain realistic expectations based on the underlying concern.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no universal course. The route, frequency and need for follow-up must be decided only after assessing suitability. Nuance does not recommend a fixed package before consultation.

Is IV glutathione completely safe?

No injectable treatment is completely risk-free. Possible concerns include allergic reactions, infection related to injection technique, product-quality problems and other adverse effects. Medical assessment and an appropriate clinical setting reduce avoidable risk but cannot guarantee zero risk.

Can glutathione treat melasma or acne marks?

Melasma and post-acne pigmentation frequently need sun protection, prescription skincare and selected procedures. Glutathione should not replace a diagnosis-based pigmentation plan.

How much does treatment cost at Nuance?

Pricing depends on the clinician-recommended plan. You will receive a transparent estimate after consultation, before deciding whether to proceed.

Who should avoid glutathione treatment?

This depends on the route and individual health profile. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, asthma, kidney or liver problems, significant allergies and current medicines must be disclosed. The treating doctor makes the final decision.
